The Modern Learning Collaborative

Gone are the days of teachers being the holders of knowledge or the sage on the stage.  Knowledge today is ubiquitous...two clicks away!  Modern learning environments should focus on skills associated with understanding and processing that knowledge.  The 5 Cs of Modern Learning are Curiosity, Creativity, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking!! 

Several years ago, I realized asking a student, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" was short sighted and not engaging.  Today I like to ask students, "What problems do you want to solve?".  This question gets to the heart of what the student finds important to his/her life.  Knowing this is critical to keeping students engaged in the learning process!

We all learning best by doing, by getting our hands dirty.  We've known this for some time.  Even Ben Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."  Unfortunately, the world of "standardized testing" has drawn education away from this understanding.  It's time to bring experiential learning opportunities back to every classroom!

Educational Technology and Digital Devices have transformed and continue to transform education.  These devices and tools like generative AI are force multipliers, allowing teachers to broaden their efforts and truly personalize learning by creating unique, engaging and rich resources for every student.  Flipping the classroom has never been more powerful!
